QUESTIONS
AND ANSWERS
I want to use this on my balcony, does it have a bottom ?
The bottom is made of the same fabric as the rest of the pouch. The fabric is porous enough to allow for drainage of excess water.
What type of fabric is the Urban Pouch?
Our Fabric Raised Bed is made of patented BPA-free, 2-layer polypropylene. This ingenious fabric has many benefits:
- It aerates the soil
- Air-prunes the roots
- Prevents heat build-up
- And allows excess water to drain away.
- It folds for storage, too!
How heavy is the original size when full of wet potting soil ?
Depends on the growing media. The larger 50 gallon fabric raised bed with wet soil would way between 75 to 100 lbs. While the smaller 3 gallon pouch with wet soil would weigh around 5 lbs.
What is the best soil for a raised garden bed?
If you do not have access to quality topsoil, an acceptable substitute would be a 50-50 blend of soilless growing medium (often called “potting soil”) and compost. If you want to add peat moss to the bed, it should not be more than 20 percent of the total mix. Peat moss is naturally acidic and is not a good medium for growing vegetables.
How fast does the soil in the pouch dry out during the dry summer months ?
The soil does not dry out any faster than other raised beds. A lot depends on the soil and amenments your using in your raised bed.
